Parents are seen as indispensable members of the therapy team. Support for parents includes annual individual feedback meetings with the whole multi-disciplinary team, behaviour management counseling and structured contact with other parents if required.
We also run a parent support group every second Friday at 7h30 with Barbara Bennett, our principal. These are informal coffee mornings where parents can meet and chat in a safe and supported environment.
The Talk Shop will run a number of Hanen courses per year – these are structured sessions that occur weekly and are aimed at assisting you as parents in communicating effectively with your children.
It Takes Two To Talk will run for 6 weeks in Terms 1 and 3 at a cost of R2500. This course is aimed at younger, less verbal children and focuses on a parent’s interaction with their child and how to optimize any and every communication attempt.
The Talkability course will be held during Term 2 at a cost of R3000. This is aimed at children with more language who have difficulty with more higher order language skills such as Theory of Mind.
