Assessments are done on an ongoing basis because we realise how children’s competence in a certain area can change daily. Our school reports are based on continuous assessments and are a summary of the progress that is made each term.
We follow the CAPS mainstream curriculum and as such the reports reflect the assessment standards and learning outcomes outlined by the Department of Basic Education.
Reports are handed out twice a year – before half term in June and at the end of the school year in December.
If your child requires an Individualised Education Plan (IEP) for any of the assessment areas, this will be communicated to you and a team meeting will be set up.
Therapy assessments are conducted annually for each child and team feedback meetings are held with you, the parents, to discuss progress and make the necessary recommendations for ongoing management.
The Grade 000 assessment feedbacks are held in the October to allow the child time to settle into the school routine. The Grade 00 feedbacks are held in the June/July of that year.
At this meeting, recommendations are made for school placements following the child’s Grade R year at The Talk Shop. This is when parents need to put their child’s name down at the recommended schools.
The Grade R feedbacks are held in the March to enable parents to follow up on school placements and to allow the child to have a Psycho-Educational Assessment which will assist in placement options if required.
